Whitman is largely considered the father of American poetry, characterised by experimentation, innovation and a conception of a new poetic space that was completely innovative for its time. Free verses, without a fixed number of syllables, which lead to reading and exploring a new rhythm of language, one that is true, honest and musical. As vast as a journey from one side of the United States to the other<\/p>\n
So, a couple of months ago, I started reading and researching and discovered that Whitman (1819-1892) left school at just 11 years of age to work as a typographer\u2026 he obviously needed to end up under my press.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s an excerpt from \u201cSong of Myself\u201d, originally published in the poetry collection \u201cLeaves of Grass\u201d, in 1855: Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you<\/p>\n
